About a year ago a group of London Twitter users got together to raise money for the homeless and the “Twestival” was born. A few months later the event turned global, with cities around the world holding events to raise money for a single cause, Charity: Water. The events raised more than $250,000– enough to build 55 wells servicing more than 17,000 people in Uganda, Ethiopia and India. Wow!
Now the focus has turned to helping local charities. Dozens of cities around the world (including Greenville, SC!) are holding events on the same weekend in September (the 10-13 to be exact) to benefit charities nominated and chosen by their community.
Interested in being a part of this global project right here in your own community?
Get Informed! Start following @GvilleTwestival for updates and join our group on Facebook. Put this blog on your feed and look for regular updates.
Spread the Word! Help us by telling your friends, tweeting about us and blogging about this exciting project!
Nominate a Charity: Right now we are accepting nominations for the charity that will be the recipient of the money raised by Twestival Greenville. Email your nominations to alison@alisonstorm.com. Tell us briefly why that charity should be selected and specifically what $1,000 or $2,000 would accomplish.
Get Involved! Obviously we have a small amount of time to pull off this event so we need all the help we can get. Either tweet us, email us at alison@alisonstorm.com or message us on Facebook.
Share Your Ideas! Our event is in the very early planning stages. It could be a concert, a silent auction, or a city-wide water balloon fight. At this point it’s up in the air. If you have a great idea please let us know!
Donate Something! Soon you’ll be able to donate to the chosen charity. But in the meantime if you have something you’d like to donate for the auction, or if you’d like to donate your services as a designer, organizer or cake baker we’d love to hear from you!
